Special Education

The Special Education Department offers academic support plus a variety of learning experiences for students who have been identified as exceptional. Please visit Special Education Services for a description of our role, programs and services, and information on referrals and identification.

The Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) has a three-tiered alternative program design, effective approach to assessment and intervention allowing for varied levels of supports for a student requiring special education programs and services.

Opeongo High School offers a regular class placement to all Special Education students with support from the resource teacher as needed. An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is designed for each student according to their individual learning needs and strengths. The IEP outlines any individual accommodations or modifications to the course expectations and provides teachers with a reference for each of their identified students.
